Defaults and explicit choices
Set an organization or channel default, or choose an agent and model for a specific thread. A manual selection pins that thread.
Fallback you configure
Operators can disable fallback, enable automatic fallback, or ask the author in an eligible interactive Slack thread when the default engine cannot run. Unattended runs use automatic fallback when permitted. The alternative engine must be enabled and available.
Usage you can inspect
Run records expose engine, token, cost and timing information when reported by the provider. They support operational review; they are not a per-user spending cap.

When a default agent is unavailable
Optional fallback is a recovery policy, with explicit limits on replay and agent choice.
Check the selection
A manually pinned agent or model stays pinned; its error includes a manual-switch hint.
Apply the fallback policy
For an unpinned default, use the configured choice only if a supported alternative is available.
Recover with context
Replay-safe failures before tools or output may recover. Switching engines reconstructs conversation context; it does not transfer an identical internal session.
